About the Artist
Miru De Peralta is a Japanese Filipino artist who grew up in the United States, South Korea, Japan, and China. She started her art journey living in Seoul at the age of 11. At the age of 15, she moved to Beijing and studied Fine Arts with a focus on sculptural work. After High School graduation, she continued to pursue art seriously by attending Cornish College of the Arts as a Performance Production student with a focus in Scenic Design. Through that, she refines her craft in three-dimensional forms, building methods, and storytelling through art for theatre while still maintaining her sculptural arts passion. In the Spring of 2023, she had her first public sculptural exhibition at the A/NT Gallery in Seattle Center whilst being a stagehand for a Cornish musical. In the Fall of 2023, she was a lead fabricator for a 40' sculpture installation in Seattle whilst wrapping up a musical production in Everett as a technical director. Through those experiences, she has also gained interest in scenic design, technical direction, carpentry, sculptural installations, project management, and, other theatre disciplines in lighting and electrics.

Artist Statement
As a bisexual Asian American artist with ADHD who has lived in over four cultures, I have observed the importance of telling my story and uplifting others to share their story. My identity has been challenged in every culture and country I have lived in and I use art as a medium of sharing my experience in hopes to start conversations and create connections despite differences.
Sculptures demand attention, interaction, and exploration from the viewer. My sculptures should be experienced in many angles just like how people need to be experienced in many perspectives to be able to fully understand the intricacies of what makes us human.

Theatre operates in a similar way and can bring a community of people to experience art together. As a theatre artist and technician, I can provide my skills and craft to tell stories about the human experience as well as uplifting and supporting other artists in the process.
